Preparing for your first lesson

Come as you are. Bring your curiosity.

You do not need to know how to play, read music, or own the perfect instrument before you begin.

Bring your guitar—if you have one.

Payton can check the fit, setup, and condition and help you get comfortable with the instrument you already own.

No guitar yet? Borrow one for the lesson.

You may use one of Payton’s guitars during your complimentary first visit. He can then guide you toward the right guitar for your size, goals, sound, and budget.

Bring the music that inspires you.

A favorite artist, song, riff, or style gives Payton a useful starting point for shaping lessons around your interests.

Private residential studio: 2283 Encino Loop, San Antonio, TX 78259. The studio is behind Payton’s home, so all visits are by appointment only.

Is the first guitar lesson really free?

Yes. Your first lesson is complimentary. It gives you time to meet Payton, talk about your musical goals, play guitar, and decide whether the teaching style and studio feel right for you.

Do I need a guitar for the first lesson?

No. Bring your guitar if you already own one. If you do not have one yet, you may borrow one of Payton’s guitars for the lesson, and he can guide you toward an appropriate guitar to purchase afterward.

What age can a child begin lessons?

Guitar School of Texas welcomes students age eight and older. Readiness also depends on attention span, hand size, and interest, which can be discussed during the first visit.

Can complete beginners book a lesson?

Absolutely. Many students begin without knowing a chord or how to read music. The first lesson starts at your current level and moves at a comfortable pace.

Can experienced guitarists schedule a free lesson?

Yes. Advanced and returning players are welcome. Bring a goal, song, technique challenge, or question so Payton can understand where focused instruction would help most.

Where is the lesson held?

Lessons take place in a comfortable private studio behind Payton’s residence at 2283 Encino Loop, San Antonio, TX 78259. Because it is a residential studio, all visits are by appointment only.

How long are ongoing lessons?

After the complimentary first visit, weekly private lessons are available in 30- and 60-minute formats. Payton can help you decide which lesson length best fits your age, experience, and goals.

What styles of music can I learn?

Lessons can include rock, blues, country, pop, worship music, acoustic fingerstyle, and more. Your musical taste helps shape the songs, techniques, and concepts used in your plan.
