Talk about your experience, favorite music, challenges, and what you would most like to accomplish.
Start making music, experience the teaching style, and decide whether weekly lessons feel right for you.
Preparing for your first lesson
You do not need to know how to play, read music, or own the perfect instrument before you begin.
Payton can check the fit, setup, and condition and help you get comfortable with the instrument you already own.
You may use one of Payton’s guitars during your complimentary first visit. He can then guide you toward the right guitar for your size, goals, sound, and budget.
A favorite artist, song, riff, or style gives Payton a useful starting point for shaping lessons around your interests.
Lessons built around you
Every lesson starts with the student in front of Payton, not a rigid program. Your pace, experience, taste, and goals guide the work.
Patient, age-appropriate instruction that builds coordination, focus, confidence, and a positive practice routine.
Start from scratch in a relaxed setting without feeling rushed, judged, or expected to already know the basics.
Reconnect with guitar, correct old habits, fill in knowledge gaps, and make progress with greater clarity.
Develop technique, theory, improvisation, tone, repertoire, songwriting, and confident performance.

Yes. Advanced and returning players are welcome. Bring a goal, song, technique challenge, or question so Payton can understand where focused instruction would help most.
Lessons take place in a comfortable private studio behind Payton’s residence at 2283 Encino Loop, San Antonio, TX 78259. Because it is a residential studio, all visits are by appointment only.
After the complimentary first visit, weekly private lessons are available in 30- and 60-minute formats. Payton can help you decide which lesson length best fits your age, experience, and goals.
Lessons can include rock, blues, country, pop, worship music, acoustic fingerstyle, and more. Your musical taste helps shape the songs, techniques, and concepts used in your plan.
